Thursday night films – reserve your seat

Syndetics book cover From 5th March, on Thursday evenings we are trialling screening feature films from the library’s collection at the Central Library. Sessions begin at 6pm on the Ground Floor. These screenings are free to attend. The first few will feature films based on books.
To avoid disappointment reserve your seat by telephoning 801-4068 during library opening hours.
Note : reservations not taken up by the starting time at 6pm may be reallocated to customers waiting, as numbers are limited.

EDIT: Thank you all for you interest in these events. We have special permission to screen these films for free in public libraries as long as we don’t advertise the film name online. Please call the Information desk (801-4068) to get more details about the film screenings.

  1. Will you be posting a schedule? I can see you have it in your events area but not what film will be screening.

  4. Great idea and I am keen to go but I would like to find a page telling me of the upcoming films please.

  5. This sounds great. Is there somewhere on the website where the film titles are listed? I couldn’t find it…

  6. Need to know what films are showing on thursday nights before i book. Where can i find this information please.

  7. I too would like to know what films will be showing before I commit myself to coming along. I don’t want to see just any old film, I want to know beforehand that it’s going to be a film I want to see!

  8. Sounds a lovely idea.
Will you be showing some old classics as well.
Where do we see the list of coming attractions?

  9. And yes, like others above I have just today received this email, so obviously missed out on whatever films were showing on previous Thursdays. But I wonder what they were, and what next Thursday’s film will be …?

  10. Hi everyone, thank you all for you interest in these events! We have special permission to screen these films for free in public libraries as long as we don’t advertise the film name online. Please call the Information desk (801-4068) to get more details about the film screenings.

  11. Re: 8. Stuart Hudson, in accordance with the contract we have allowing us to show these films, we also cannot list what movies have already been shown. Please call the Information desk (801-4068) for more details about the film screenings.

  12. This is a really great idea. Will definitely be interested when we come back from a holiday on 17th April.
I hope that bookings will be taken each week and that it won’t be possible for people to book ahead for a whole month or even longer.

  13. Hi, like other guys, I’d like to know which films, you’re gonna play and when ??? thanks to answer. cheers. Patrick

  14. Showing movies from the Library collection for free is an excellent idea but seems doomed to be a bit of a damp squid if you can’t advertise the films and people have to phone up. Good luck 🙂

    1. Please call the Information desk on 801-4068 to book your seat as they have the most up-to-date information about how many seats are still available 🙂

  15. Congratulations – this is a great idea! I hope it goes well. Understand completely why you cannot advertise given that these are free screenings. Thank you 🙂

  16. I understand you can’t advertise the name of the film, but how about a description, e.g. “a classic from 1952” or “a comedy from 2007”? Would that breach your contract?

  17. Janice – as stated above, we cannot publicise the titles of the movies online. You can phone 801-4068 for more details on the upcoming films.

Romie – we do in fact post clues week by week over on our Facebook and Twitter accounts. Keep an eye out over there for clues!
