Zines: An Audience with… Justine Telfer

For the sixth in our interview series with zinesters from around the globe, we have Melbourne-based Justine Telfer, mastermind behind the incredibly popular Mixtape zine…

Describe an average day:

Have breakfast with the family, check emails and try and answer as many as possible, check my fav blogs, try and get some sewing done, all this while raising a 4 yo!

How did you first get into zines?

I loved an American craft zine called CROQ and thought it would be cool to do something like it

Describe your work:

Wicked. I get to work from home and tell our readers about all these amazingly talented peeps from all over the world. A bit too much paper work for my liking, but hey! whose complaining?

What do you like about zines?

They are honest and from the heart, and they are created for a niche market and not mass-produced.

Is there anything you don’t like about zines as a medium?

Nup!

How do you get inspiration for a zine?

All around, internet, my surroundings, my peeps, music, movies, everywhere!

Tell us about some of your favourite zines:

I like to go into sticky (my local zine shop) and just pick up a few every few months. My favourites are Croq, Crafty Leftovers, Book 8 – Set Lists, Have wheels will go .
